![]() ![]() ![]() We selected a brand called Canidae () which has a 5 star rating and is not overpriced like some other brands which aren't half as good as this one. Also one should look for dog food containing a minimum of 25% protein and a minimum of 12% fat content. I always thought that its a good idea to pick out a dog food that lists Meat (chicken, lamb or beef) as their first ingredient (the ingredients are listed in order of descending amounts in the dog food) But the website mentions that its not a good idea to look for food like that as the meat which is listed as first ingredient will have 80% water content which if removed pushes it down to the 5th or 6th in line.hence making the second ingredient which could be corn or brewers rice the top ingredient in the dog food.Ī better idea is to look for 'meat' (chicken, lamb or beef) meal.as the water content is already removed. They mentioned a lot of tips on how to select good dog food. We came across this website for dog food analysis () which I thought was wonderful. So we set out to look for a decent dry kibble that was good which I could pair with some cooked turkey or chicken. But we decided against it as we were concerned about the bones hurting him inside and parasites n the meat. Shadow loved eating those.raw! And we noticed that his coat was shinier and he looked strong.not fat. Q came home with a pack of turkey necks from our local Piggly Wiggly. We read reviews which were almost always positive, people swore that the diet was the best thing their dogs could have. Then we came across a raw meat diet for dogs which was so convincing. Dogs are carnivores (and they have the teeth to prove it!) I started some research on pet food and was horrified to learn that the dry food we were feeding Shadow was pretty ! The protein in the kibble was mainly corn (which caused gas and bloating) and the amount of meat content was painfully low. But then we also noticed that he had a distended stomach and he bottom burped a lot.sometimes audible ones!! So that evening i separated the colored chow and he ate the plain kibble, which made him feel better. ![]() We gave him Purina puppy chow which had colored kibble mixed with the plain brown kibble. He told us it was possible that Shadow is allergic to something in his food. Our vet noticed that he scratched himself a lot even though he was free of any fleas or ticks. *Behavior Problems: We address all problems in open forum.I wanted to blog about Dog Food right from the day when we realized that we may not be feeding Shadow the best dog food available. *Commands: Taught at the puppy level, we teach Sit, Down, Stand, Off, Come, Give(releasing coveted objects), heeling, Moving drops, Stays *5 minutes of socialization/play: We use this time to teach the puppies to come when called with distractions, and overcoming any socialization issues they may have. It is a drop in course and most classes take on a life of their own depending on the mix of puppies we have at the time. Your first session always includes a private orientation to get you and pup off on the right foot….or paw. This class is for puppies 10 weeks to 5 months. ……… and these “good behaviors” become all the puppy knows. Repetition of this pattern reinforces the behaviors. By teaching the puppy the RIGHT course to follow you create a pattern to their behavior. It is widely believed that avoiding a problem is much easier that solving one. Guidance and structure when introduced at an early age, teaches the puppy the basis for a communicative relationship with its human guardian. In other words we teach the puppy how to “learn” and that learning gets them all the great things in life. He learns what makes you happy and what doesn’t……and most importantly how that effects him. This is when your puppy learns as much about you as you learn about him. You are setting up the rules that will carry this puppy through a lifetime. This is also when you define your relationship with your puppy. When that light bulb goes on you can see it in their eyes. And watching a puppy pick up new things can be a sight to behold. As a behaviorist, this is the time when the most GOOD can be done. These are canine personalities in the making and it is at this level that ALL future behavior issues can be avoided. ![]() Each puppy kindergarten class is a mini seminar on developing canine behavior. ![]()
